Two trophies Brisbane bound - and two airport records

Brisbane will today welcome home the triumphant Brisbane Broncos NRL and NRLW teams — along with thousands of passionate fans, as the airport breaks two all-time passenger records. 

Both victorious teams return to Brisbane today after historic back-to-back premiership wins on Sunday at Accor Stadium. 

The homecoming coincides with the end of school holidays for Queensland and Victoria, as well as long weekend travel, contributing to record-breaking passenger numbers at Brisbane Airport for Monday 6 October. 

Today is forecast to be: 

• The busiest day ever for the Domestic Terminal, with more than 64,000 domestic passengers expected, surpassing the previous record of 63,525 set on Friday 4 October 2019.
• The busiest day ever for Brisbane Airport overall, with more than 83,000 total passengers forecast (domestic and international combined), breaking the previous all-time record of 82,779, set just last week on Friday 26 September. 

“One aircraft touching down at Brisbane Airport carrying two premiership-winning teams, and hot on the heels of the win by the Brisbane Lions last week. In each case, fans mobilising to support their teams on the big stage has been pivotal to this remarkable chapter in Queensland sport,” says Brisbane Airport spokesperson Peter Doherty. 

“The only place to see and hear both incredible teams will be at Suncorp Stadium at a fan celebration event. Entry is free and no tickets are required.”
