Malaysia and Queensland reconnecting

• Malaysia Airlines locks in flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Brisbane (BNE) 
• Set to deliver 75,000 inbound seats each year and generate $54 million for the Queensland economy in the first year

• This is Brisbane’s 33rd direct international route, matching the pre-pandemic milestone for the first time. 

Malaysia Airlines will fly from to Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane from 29 November 2025, marking a restoration of direct connectivity between Malaysia and Queensland. 

The carrier will operate 5 times per week, with A330-300 aircraft, delivering 75,000 inbound seats to Queensland annually and generating $54 million for the local economy in the first year. 

"We are delighted to welcome back Malaysia Airlines and the additional connectivity it brings to Brisbane. The airline boasts a robust Southeast Asian network, strong connections into Europe, and serves 10 Indian hubs, where demand is growing,” said Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff. 

"Malaysia is Queensland's 7th largest export destination, and the restoration of non-stop air connections is vital for exporting perishables, including Queensland beef, our top export to Malaysia. 

“Kuala Lumpur is the 33^rd destination on Brisbane’s international network map, matching our pre-pandemic number for the first time, so it’s a milestone moment.” 

The route is supported by the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, a jointly funded initiative between the Queensland Government and the state’s international airports.

Queensland’s Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates, welcomed today’s announcement. 

“Additional seats mean additional visitors, and Queensland is ready to welcome them with open arms. 

 “Whether it’s adventure tourism like snorkelling or mountain bike riding, or enjoying nature on our fantastic beaches, or the wonderful rainforests of the Tropical North – there’s something for everyone. 

“We’ll also be sending those plane cargo holds back to Asia, and on to Europe, filled with the very best of Queensland exports, so it’s a great economic win for our state.”
