Malaysia Airlines returns to Brisbane Airport
Malaysia Airlines has touched down in Brisbane, with the much-anticipated return of the carrier restoring non-stop services between Malaysia and Queensland.
Operating five times per week between Brisbane and Kuala Lumpur aboard an A330-300 aircraft, the route enhances connectivity across Southeast Asia and Europe, while also providing another key gateway to India through the airline’s network of 10 major Indian cities.
The route will bring more than 75,000 inbound seats each year and is expected to generate $54 million for the local economy annually.
Queensland exporters will also regain a key link into Asian markets, unlocking strengthened opportunities for trade in Malaysia, India and beyond.
The new Brisbane - Kuala Lumpur flight opens the door for Queenslanders to explore Malaysia’s vibrant capital, from its historic temples, to bustling shopping districts including Bukit Bintang, as well as iconic landmarks including Petronas Twin Towers.
Beyond its bustling cities, Malaysia offers tropical island paradises such as Langkawi and Penang along with rainforest adventures in UNESCO World Heritage listed national parks.
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the addition of Malaysia Airlines strengthened Queensland’s connections with the world.
“The return of Malaysia Airlines is another win for Queensland. With Kuala Lumpur a vibrant, world-class destination and a key gateway to Asia and beyond, the airline’s extensive network will open new doors for travellers and trade.
“Malaysia Airlines offers exceptional connectivity into India, and we know this is a rapidly expanding market for Queensland. As the world’s most populous nation with a growing appetite for travel experiences, India represents a significant opportunity for tourism growth.”
The route is supported by the Queensland Government and Brisbane Airport.
Queensland Minister for Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the direct service makes it easier than ever for travellers from across Asia to discover Queensland.
“Queensland is the home of the holiday, and these new flights make sure visitors from Asia can get here quickly and efficiently ready for their adventures in our incredible state.
“Not only will they be investing in the thousands of mum and dad business who make up the visitor economy in Queensland, we’ll be sending those planes back with our fantastic export produce on board for key Asian markets.”
Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group said the reinstated service would expand the airline’s presence in Australia.

Brisbane Airport is now connected to 35 international destinations with international travel these summer holidays expected to rise 9% on last year.
A record 25 million passengers are expected through Brisbane Airport this year.
The airport is currently investing $5 billion across the precinct over the next five years as part of the Future BNE transformation.
