John Tormey BNE Property Executive General Manager to retire

John Tormey - BAC General Manager of Commercial Businesses

Wednesday 27 March 2019: BNE Property Executive General Manager, John Tormey, will retire from full-time work at the end of the current financial year.

With more than 40 years’ experience in the commercial property industry, John is one of Queensland’s most respected property industry leaders. He has headed up Brisbane Airport Corporation’s (BAC) Property Division since 2014.

During his time at BAC John has led the Property team to deliver on dozens of major property projects including BNE Auto Mall - an international scale innovation.

This project, together with an expansion to the DFO Centre and Skygate Corso precinct, BNE Service Centre and Skygate Home and Life, among others, as well as BNE’s property vacancy rate of less than 1 per cent, is the envy of the property investment industry.

John has also provided strong support and guidance to the Parking and Transport Services division and has achieved corporate success with a can-do, collaborative approach.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, BAC Chief Executive, said, “I know I am not alone in saying that John’s renowned expertise in the property market has been a great benefit to BAC.

“I understand that he is looking forward to doing other things but, knowing John, I’m sure he will have a continued interest in the property industry and Brisbane Airport including looking forward to driving his car on the new BNE Auto Mall track when it opens.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank John for all his hard work and for his significant contribution not only to BAC, but to the property industry as a whole,” Mr de Graaff said.

Before joining BAC, John was the Director of property consultancy business Tormey Property.

As an independent consultant, John provided strategic advice to a number of large developer and investor clients including BAC’s property division. This included the development and / or sale of Green Star office buildings, distribution centers, major warehouse buildings and the Northshore Hamilton property master plan.

John was previously the Managing Director of JLL in Queensland for seven years, and joint Managing Director prior to that for 10 years.

During this time he led the generation of major business with institutional and development clients and was responsible for numerous retail and commercial developments throughout the state.
