GE Aviation set for expansion at Brisbane Airport

GE-SOD-Turning-Media-Release-2

Monday 30 August 2021: GE Aviation is gearing up for a move to a larger new facility at Brisbane Airport, with a recent on-site sod turning event marking the commencement of construction.

Despite the setbacks and challenges of COVID-19, GE Aviation is committed to building for the future and will call a new 3,312sqm warehouse, located within the Da Vinci precinct, home in mid-2022.

More than 20 GE Aviation and Tomkins delegates visited the site for the sod turning event on Thursday including Mark Gavioli, CFO of GE Aviation, who said the team is thrilled at the prospect of settling in to a custom and state-of-the-art facility.

“We are so glad to enter this new chapter with a significant vote of confidence in the future of our relationship with Brisbane Airport.

“We have been at the airport since 2005, and some of us standing here on our future warehouse site were at the original sod turning, so we are proud to bring in new employees who may still be here in 16 years,” Mr Gavioli said.

George Delibaltas, Brisbane Airport Corporation Head of Property Development, was there to welcome the long-term tenants to their new site.

“GE Aviation’s partnership with Brisbane Airport means a great deal to us as it is a long-lasting relationship that continues to go from strength to strength, and we really look forward to starting this next chapter together,” Mr Delibaltas said.

“We have a number of exciting projects underway across the airport, with our property assets under management portfolio exceeding $1.5 billion. GE Aviation is a part of this exciting change, as are other big names including DHL, Qantas, Eagers Automotive, and many more,” Mr Delibaltas said.

Mike Tomkins, founder of Tomkins, was also present at the sod turning event. Tomkins is currently overseeing multiple BNE property projects including the Qantas Flight Training Centre facility located across from the future GE Aviation site.

The project is generating more than 400 construction jobs and is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
