Contemporary art festival landing soon at Airport Village

Vibrant public art, theatre performances, children’s art workshops and live music will transform Airport Village from 24 August to 2 September for the inaugural Art with Altitude festival, presented by Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).

BAC Chief Executive Officer, Julieanne Alroe, said the free contemporary art festival is an exciting new addition to the Brisbane event calendar which complements the airport’s extensive public art collection.

“Brisbane Airport already has one of Australia’s biggest collections of public art on display throughout the terminals and at the Airport Village including works from Dennis Nona, Ned Kahn and Lena Yarinkura.

“Art with Altitude is an extension of our commitment to public art, providing a platform for the community to experience the best of contemporary art, supporting emerging artists and fostering creativity in Brisbane,” Ms Alroe said.

Internationally renowned Urban Art Projects (UAP) will produce the art festival, co-curated by Natasha Smith and Indigenous artist and curator Megan Cope.

Megan Cope said the 10-day festival explores the curatorial theme ‘Land to Sky and Beyond’, showcasing a range of talented local, regional and Indigenous artists.“Prepare to embark on a journey of the senses with playful and interactive sculptural, lighting and kinetic installations.

“Live music, performance art and workshops add to the dynamic festival mix to create a unique experience for all ages to enjoy,” Ms Cope said.

Conveniently located on Brisbane’s north side, Airport Village’s existing public art and green spaces, retail and dining options make it the perfect location for festival goers to explore, relax and be inspired.
