China Southern doubles flights to Brisbane year-round
China Southern Airlines has ramped up its services to Brisbane Airport, moving to twice-daily flights year-round from 30 March 2026.
The expanded schedule will bring more than 114,000 extra seats into Brisbane every year, operating on the next-generation Airbus A350 which offers fuel efficiency, quieter operations and reduced emissions.
China Southern was the first Chinese airline to fly to Queensland and brings more Chinese visitors to Queensland into the state than any other airline.
A recently signed codeshare agreement with Virgin Australia will also make it even easier for tourists to reach every corner of Queensland.
From Brisbane, passengers can connect seamlessly through China Southern's mega hub in Guangzhou to destinations within China, across Asia, eight cities in Europe or five cities in North America.
Guangzhou also serves as a vital economic gateway for southern China, with the increased capacity supporting trade and investment opportunities between Queensland and China.
The increased capacity is supported by the Queensland Government and Brisbane Airport through the Connecting Queensland Fund.
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the boost would mark the highest-ever frequency by the airline since it commenced operations to Brisbane in 2010.
“Moving to double-daily flights year-round will supercharge Brisbane’s connectivity and give travellers greater choice and flexibility when flying to and from China.
“Australians can now enjoy a taste of China on their travels with visa-free stopovers up to 30 days, to fill up in the home of dim-sum and classical Cantonese cuisine.
“Passengers will also be able to take advantage of China Southern’s vast global network and enjoy quick and easy connections on popular routes to London, Paris, Amsterdam and more.”
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said each new flight was delivering a fresh wave of opportunity.
“Queensland is the home of the holiday, and these new routes mean more visitors and more money flowing into local businesses.
“We said we’d boost connectivity - and we are doing exactly that. We are making Queensland more accessible and more connected than ever before."
Regional General Manager of China Southern Airlines ANZ Jason Sun said the strengthened schedule reflected ongoing demand from both sides.
“We are excited to announce that starting from 30 March 2026, China Southern Airlines will increase its Brisbane-Guangzhou service to twice daily. This capacity enhancement reflects our long-term confidence in Queensland market and directly responds to the growing demand for business, tourism, cultural exchange, and family travel between the Greater Bay Area and Brisbane.
“Brisbane plays a pivotal role in our Australasian network. The double-daily service will provide travellers with greater flexibility, improved connectivity through our Guangzhou hub to over 220 destinations across China and beyond, and stronger support for the economic and cultural ties between Queensland and China.”
Brisbane Airport is now connected to 35 international destinations with international travel these summer holidays expected to rise 9% on last year.
A record 25 million passengers are expected through Brisbane Airport this year.
The airport is currently investing $5 billion across the precinct over the next five years as part of the Future BNE transformation.
