Brisbane Airport named Capital City Airport of the Year
Brisbane Airport (BNE) has received two industry honours, been named Capital City Airport of the Year 2019, as well as winning the award for Community Engagement at the Australian Airports Association (AAA) National Airport Industry Awards hosted on the Gold Coast last night.
These awards come hot on the heels of BAC recently being named CAPA Asia Pacific Medium Airport of the Year 2019.
Gert-Jan de Graaff BAC CEO said, of all the categories entered, receiving the award for BAC’s Community Engagement program, as well as being named Capital City Airport of the Year, is the most meaningful of all.
“The projects considered in BAC’s nomination for the AAA’s Capital City Airport of the Year Award included the corporation’s existing runway renaming project, emission reduction strategy, the Dryandra Road underpass, Brisbane’s new runway community engagement program, Skygate Home and Life Centre development, and our in terminal customer experience program, so virtually every part of the business contributed to winning this award.
“Separately, BAC’s Community Engagement Program is second to none. The team has delivered a multi-facetted strategy that effectively takes the airport to the people and encourages our community to engage with us.
“At the heart of all BAC’s community based activities, is the goal of creating a space where individuals feel comfortable asking questions, giving feedback – be it good or bad - and knowing their opinion is important to us, and that any concerns are acknowledged and addressed to the best of our ability.
“To be named Capital City Airport of Year among peer airports delivering equally impressive projects was unexpected and humbling.
“These national awards are a well-deserved honour for every BAC team member, as well as our business partners, whose hard work, dedication and expertise continue to contribute to our success,” Mr de Graaff said.
Caroline Wilkie AAA CEO said, “There is no denying there are exciting things happening at Brisbane Airport. With a new runway to open next year and so many fantastic customer experience initiatives in place, Brisbane Airport was a most worthy winner.
“The team has really put the community at the heart of everything they do so that all Brisbane residents can share in the benefits of the airport’s plans for growth,” Ms Wilkie said.
