Brisbane Airport (BNE) has become the first airport in Australia to launch an airport App compatible with the new Apple Watch, following the rollout of the updated BNE App.

Roel Hellemons, General Manager of Strategic Planning and Development Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC), said joining forces with a global power house like Apple with the rollout of the Apple Watch App is a dedication to a continuous journey of innovation.

“We are more committed than ever to providing the best passenger experience possible and harnessing these digital technologies drives ease of use for our customers when travelling through Brisbane Airport.

“The BNE App recently won the IMA (Interactive Media Awards) ‘Best in Class’ award receiving an excellent 482 of 500 points, with the ‘Best in Class’ award representing the highest honour bestowed by the IMA.

“The updated version of the BNE App continues to provide passengers with essential information at their fingertips and our adaptation into making this App compatible with Apple Watch was an innovative yet natural evolution.

“Within a few months of its introduction, Apple has become the number two seller in ranks of companies manufacturing wearable devices and the compatibility between the Apple Watch is partnered perfectly with the award winning BNE App,” Mr Hellemons said.

The BNE App on mobile and tablet allows passengers to look up flight information for departures, arrivals, parking, shopping and dining, terminal maps, security information, and explore places and goings to do in Brisbane and beyond.

In addition, the mobile and tablet compatible app includes a special ‘My Trip’ function allowing passengers to include their personal information details about where they parked at the terminal, while also tracking flights and being notified of the flight status and any schedule changes.

The launch of the updated App comes off the back of a host of digital innovations currently in place at Brisbane Airport. These include a self-service boarding gate being trialled at the Domestic Terminal in partnership with Virgin Australia, the world’s first Digital Departure Card and the rollout of 12 SmartGate automated lanes for outbound travellers at the International Terminal following a successful trial.
