Brisbane Airport fires up record Community Giving Fund
Local community clubs and grassroots organisations are set to receive a share in $125,000, with applications now open for Brisbane Airport’s largest ever Community Giving Fund.
The expanded grant program provides financial support to help small organisations continue the important work they do within the community across education, environment, health and inclusive initiatives.
For the first time a new community sport category has been added to support grassroots sport and infrastructure, improving access and inclusion, across greater Brisbane.
Categories include:
· Protecting our planet - Projects that preserve, protect and celebrate our natural environment.
· Diversity and inclusion - Projects that enable the enrichment of the community through programs that support the diversity, inclusion, and access of the Greater Brisbane region.
· Enquiring minds -Projects that inspire and support the younger generation to grow and learn.
· Health and wellbeing - Projects that celebrate our healthy Queensland lifestyle and support social and emotional wellbeing.
· Community sport - Projects that support community sporting initiatives, small infrastructure programs, and accessible sporting programs.
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the introduction of the community sport category recognised the pivotal role local sporting clubs play in improving health and wellbeing within our communities, as well as shaping the next generation of athletes.
“Community sport plays a vital role in encouraging active lifestyles, bringing people together and creating a sense of belonging that is essential for resilient, thriving neighbourhoods.
“Queensland is gearing up for a decade of sporting opportunity, and we want to ensure athletes of all ages and abilities can chase their dreams with better equipment, facilities and inclusive programs.
“By backing community sport, we’re also helping to inspire the next generation of potential Olympians and Paralympians that may one day represent Australia on the world stage.”
Brisbane Airport Community Engagement Manager Portia Allison said the 2026 round of $125,000 funding was the largest one yet, topping last year’s $100,000 for 100 years of Brisbane Airport.
“These groups and organisations are the backbones of our local communities and we’re proud to help them grow.
“We have a share of $125,000 available for local community groups and organisations to make a difference in their local neighbourhoods, whether it’s an environmental restoration project, inspiring young leaders through education or giving a helping hand to those in need.
“Strong communities make Queensland stronger, and I encourage eligible groups and programs to apply.”
Last year’s successful recipients received a share in $100,000, with funding supporting independent living for people with disability with the installation of a new lift at Helena’s House, animal-assisted therapy through the Children’s Hospital Fund and Yiliyapinya Indigenous Corporation’s Made by Mob program, a hands-on initiative where young people learn bricklaying, carpentry and construction skills.
Since the launch of the Community Giving Fund in 2015, Brisbane Airport has donated more than $530,000 to help community groups and non-profit organisations that are working hard to make Brisbane a better place.
Applications for Brisbane Airport’s 2026 Community Giving Fund are open until 28 February.
