Boost to Brisbane’s Trans-Tasman network
Queensland’s Trans-Tasman love affair is reaching new heights, with Air New Zealand announcing direct flights between Brisbane and Queenstown in 2026.
The service operating three times per week on an A320neo narrowbody jet aircraft, will fly from 22 June to 23 October, perfectly timed for Queenslanders seeking a ski holiday or a spring escape.
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the seasonal service would provide travellers on both sides of the Tasman with 17,560 more seats.
“The addition of this service will bolster connectivity with New Zealand, which remains our top international two-way market.
“We know Queenslanders love heading across the ditch to experience the magic of a Queenstown winter, from snow-capped peaks, rugged mountain scenery, and famous Kiwi hospitality.
“Just as important, the new route also gives New Zealanders an opportunity to escape the winter blues and soak up the sun in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.”
“We’re seeing more Kiwis than ever discovering the best of Brisbane, from riverfront dining and cultural experiences in the city to the sand dunes and snorkelling of Moreton Island.”
Air New Zealand General Manager Australia Kathryn O’Brien said the new connection is welcome news for travellers.
“Queenstown has long been a favourite destination for Australian travellers, from the ski slopes in winter to world-class food, wine and adventure experiences.
“This direct route from Brisbane makes it easier than ever for Queenslanders to experience the beauty of Queenstown, the wider Otago region, and all the beautiful South Island has to offer. Whether it’s a weekend escape or a family holiday, our service gives travellers more choice and convenience when planning their New Zealand getaway.”
Air New Zealand also offers flights from Brisbane direct to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, giving Queenslanders plenty of options to explore New Zealand.
Brisbane Airport is now connected to 35 international destinations with international travel these summer holidays expected to rise 9% on last year.
A record 25 million passengers are expected through Brisbane Airport this year.
The airport is currently investing $5 billion across the precinct over the next five years as part of the Future BNE transformation.
