BNE Airport Discovery Centre reopens at Skygate

Wednesday 24 July 2013: Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Ltd (BAC) has today re-opened its popular ‘Airport Discovery Centre’ in its new location inside the Village Markets* (near Woolworths) at Skygate Brisbane Airport.

The Centre, which officially opened three years ago as the first of its kind in Australia, offers information displays on the airport’s operations, interactive maps and a unique Australian-designed software program enabling the community to understand the current and future operations of Brisbane Airport.

It also includes displays on aviation safety, security, border protection, environmental sustainability, managing capacity and delays and aircraft noise, as well as the new parallel runway.

Rachel Crowley BAC Head of Corporate Relations said since its launch in 2010 the popularity of Brisbane Airport’s Discovery Centre had inspired the development of similar centres at other airports around Australia.

“We were first off the rank with this initiative and we really had no idea how quickly the concept would be embraced by visitors and community members, so much so that we even launched an online version of the Centre for those who could not visit the physical Centre.

“Relocating it into the busy Village Markets at Skygate means that the Discovery Centre is now open 24/7 with its new position allowing many more people to discover new things about Brisbane Airport, our partners and operations, and read about projects happening at the airport,” she said.

Since 2010, more than 41,000 people have visited BNE’s Discovery Centre either at Skygate or online - www.bne.com.au/corporate/flight-paths/experience-centre.

* The Village Markets, Skygate is situated just off Airport Drive where there is free parking and extended trading hours. As well as more than 130 retail and dining options, Skygate is the home to Queensland’s first 24 hour Woolworths store.
