Aviation Australia Builds Future at Brisbane Airport

Aviation Australia will develop and expand its world-class training facilities as part of a new long term lease signed with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).

The three new long term leases on Boronia Road in the Airport South precinct include the existing training centre and airside hangar, as well as a new corporate and training centre to be developed by BAC’s property division BNE Property. The leases cover a total net lettable area of 18,921m2.

BAC General Manager Commercial Businesses John Tormey said the new lease is a strong sign of Aviation Australia’s confidence in Brisbane Airport.

“This agreement is not only a reflection of the site’s ideal location and connectivity, but also of our ability to deliver flexible solutions to meet our client’s needs,” Mr Tormey said.

“Aviation Australia is a valued, long term tenant of Brisbane Airport and we are delighted to continue this relationship well into the future.”

The new 4450m2 facility is due for completion by the end of 2015. It will comprise of a two-level corporate office, 24 lecture rooms and a technical training centre.

Aviation Australia CEO Bill Horrocks said the new lease supports the growth of the business, which is already the largest basic maintenance engineering and flight attendant training provider in the southern hemisphere.

“Expanding our facilities and training offer will help meet the needs of our domestic and international customers and continue to improve the services we offer to the aviation industry,” he said.

Since 2001, Aviation Australia has trained or supported the training of more than 30,000 aviation personnel for over 150 civil and military customers worldwide.

“Our existing training facilities developed with BAC in 2001 are world-class - housing extensive training equipment and learning platforms tailored for the aviation industry,” Mr Horrocks said.

“The new training facility will accommodate an additional 600 students and the new 545m2 canteen and outdoor dining area will be a great amenity for the wider precinct.”

The airport is already home to more than 420 businesses and 21,000 workers, with this figure expected to grow to around 50,000 by 2029.

Mr Tormey said the Brisbane City Council bus routes and growing amenity at Skygate are key drawcards for Aviation Australia’s staff and students.

“Queensland’s first 24-hour Woolworths, DFO and the new Golf Central BNE at Skygate are just minutes away by bus or car,” he said.

“This is an exciting time for Brisbane Airport and businesses continue to be attracted by our growing amenity and location.”
