Aeropelican announces Brisbane-Narrabri service

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) today welcomed the announcement from Aeropelican that they will start flying to Brisbane Airport, with their first Brisbane-Narrabri service commencing in February this year.

There will be five direct services operating per week and the Brisbane-Narrabri service will use a BAe Jetstream J32 turboprop aircraft, adding a further 190 seats per week.

BAC General Manager for Aviation Business Development, Cam Macphee, welcomed Aeropelican’s initiative saying it would add an important route to our growing network of regional airports.

"Narrabri is a thriving regional centre for mining, gas, cotton, and agricultural research industries. Companies such as Whitehaven Coal and Eastern Star Gas with a need for frequent travel to and from Brisbane can use this new service to avoid a seven hour drive or a southern transit via Sydney Airport. The new service will also provide the 14,000 or so Narrabri catchment area residents with direct air access to Queensland as well as direct connections to Brisbane Airport’s 30 international destinations including Singapore, Los Angeles and China.for tourism and business travel."

Aeropelican will be Brisbane Airport’s 33rd airline and Narrabri its 44th domestic destination.

"Aeropelican's decision to introduce services to Brisbane is further evidence of the health of aviation across the regional, domestic and international markets," Mr Macphee said.

“This commitment of Aeropelican to service Brisbane also shows confidence in the strength of our city as a business hub, and is a real boost to our recovery efforts from the recent floods. The continued growth of carriers like Aeropelican shows how important air travel is to the economy of our regional areas,” Mr Macphee said.

“I would like to congratulate Aeropelican on this new service and we are looking forward to seeing their aircraft at the upgraded Common User Terminal at Brisbane Airport in February.”

Services will commence on 28 February 2011. To book flights, please contact Aeropelican on www.aeropelican.com.au
