Two New Hotels for Brisbane Airport
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director, Julieanne Alroe has welcomed the announcement today of Brisbane Airport’s first 5-star hotel development by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development Hon Warren Truss MP.
The $150 million project will be developed by the Flynn Property Group and Scott Flynn Properties and will include a multi-level Accor branded 5-star hotel (Pullman) and a 3.5 star hotel (Ibis) as well as the Brisbane Airport Conference & Meeting Centre and additional ancillary infrastructure.
“Located at the Brisbane Domestic Terminal Precinct, this hotel and conference centre development will truly be a world class facility attracting events and visitors,” Ms Alroe said.
“Brisbane Airport directly contributes approximately $3.3 billion to the Queensland economy and this development will be a great addition to the business, conference and leisure market.
“The Novotel Brisbane Airport located in the Skygate precinct has been a major success with high occupancy rates and more than 350,000 guests since opening and all indications are that ongoing visitor demand will ensure this new project will be successful.”
International and domestic passenger numbers through Brisbane Airport increased by more than 480,000 in FY14 to 21.8 million with passenger numbers forecast to grow to 38 million per year in the next 20 years.
“The new Brisbane Airport Conference & Meeting Centre will particularly be a great asset for the airport to cater for a range of corporate and business needs,” Ms Alroe said.
“The new hotels and conference centre will have safe and convenient vehicle access and are ideally located within easy access to the Domestic Terminal and connection via the Airtrain to the CBD.
“Brisbane Airport is also becoming a significant job creator for the State and this project will add another 1000 jobs on and off airport during construction.
“Our clear vision for property development at the airport is to create a place that complements the CBD and supports the economic and cultural growth of Brisbane and Queensland and it is important that we continue to create a place that provides convenience and enhances the passenger experience,” Ms Alroe said.
Works are scheduled to commence from early 2015 and with a targeted opening in November 2016.
This project will add to the significant developments occurring within the terminals precinct that will bring many benefits to travellers as well as the recently opened BNE Service Centre.
Current projects include the $45 million redevelopment of the International Terminal, a revamp of the Common User/Central Area at the Domestic Terminal as well further terminal upgrades.
