Monday 2 August 2021: Australia’s most comprehensive range of outdoor adventure gear is now available at Brisbane Airport, with Wild Earth opening a store at Skygate Home & Life.

Wild Earth held what was meant to be a grand opening event on Saturday 31 July, with shoppers treated to free activities, goodie bags, and amazing deals on outdoor gear.

The event was cut short at 10:30am following the announcement of the South East Queensland snap lockdown by the Queensland Government.

With an iconic store on the Gold Coast and more than 30,000 fans on their social media channels, Wild Earth has made a name for itself in the landscape of outdoor adventure retail and is now ready to tackle Brisbane.

Thursday 3 June 2021: Two Brisbane locals were the lucky winners of a money-can’t-buy experience, taking part in a $5,000 shopping and styling spree with The Block 2020 winners, Jimmy and Tam, at Skygate Home & Life last month.

The competition ran throughout the month of March and invited shoppers to enter the draw to win. Shoppers of the Skygate Home & Life precinct were able to submit additional entries if they uploaded their receipt numbers with their registration.

Jimmy and Tam, who became household names last year after notching up the most wins in The Block’s 17-year history, were on hand at Skygate Home & Life to help competition winners Jordyn and James spend their $5,000.

Jordyn, new mother of a 6-week-old boy, was delighted to receive the news as she was in the middle of home renovations after the arrival of her newborn.

“I couldn’t believe it at first, I thought it was a joke. My husband (James) and I were starting to look at renovating our nursery and dining room, so this came in at a perfect time,” Jordyn said.

Brisbane couple Jimmy and Tam were very happy to help Jordyn in her decision making, showcasing all the different styles and options available at the precinct.

“We’ve been busy filming our new show ‘Renovate or Rebuild’ for Channel 9 Life, but it was such a privilege to be able to help Jordyn and her family style their home during such an exciting time in their lives,” Tam said.

Thursday 9 July 2020: In delicious news, Brisbane Airport’s Skygate precinct will be home to the iconic Strawberry Sundae over two long weekends in August, with a pop-up store and pickup point to be located within Skygate Home & Life.

Strawberry Sundaes have long been an integral part of The Royal Brisbane Show (Ekka), providing an unmistakable taste while also generating funds for critical medical research.

With the Ekka cancelled this year due to COVID19, several businesses have stepped up alongside The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation’s research fundraising arm, The Common Good, to find new and exciting ways to bring the Strawberry Sundae experience to ice cream lovers.

Brisbane Airport is proud to be one of them.

From Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August and Friday 14 to Sunday 16 August, people will be able to purchase an iconic Strawberry Sundae from the pop-up store between 10am and 6pm.

There is also an opportunity to pre-order DIY Strawberry Sundae Packs of 20 or 100 between now and 23 July, to be picked up from Skygate Home & Life on either 7, 8, 10, 11 or 12 August.

Brisbane Airport will be the ultimate pop-up location, giving inner north Brisbane locals and visitors alike the chance to grab a sundae while enjoying access to more than 160 retailers across Skygate, Skygate Home & Life and DFO.

Wednesday 7 November 2018: The brand new $18 million Skygate Home & Life centre, the latest addition to Brisbane Airport’s thriving Skygate precinct, will celebrate its grand opening from 9am this Saturday 10 November with activities, promotions, in-store activations, discounts and giveaways, including 100 x $50 Skygate Home & Life gift cards.

Following 10 months of construction, the project adds an extra 9,260m² of retail space to the precinct that already boasts DFO Brisbane, Queensland’s only 24/7 Woolworths and more than 160 specialty retailers.

Around 60 jobs were created during construction with an estimated 80 full time and part time operational and retail positions going forward, adding to the growing workforce at Brisbane Airport which now exceeds 24,000.

This free event has something for everyone with a series of sustainability themed exhibitions, demonstrations and activities aimed at inspiring, educating and entertaining people of all ages by showcasing simple and fun ways to incorporate eco-living principles into everyday life.

Monday 26 Sept: Grow your own herbs and vegetables, free succulent and plant giveaway, electric car energy display, kokedama ball making, as well as paper planes and hopscotch.

23 October 2015: Brisbane Airport Corporation’s (BAC) $30 million Skygate expansion was officially opened by the Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe, Assistant Minister of State Assisting the Premier at a function last night. Representatives from the project team, retailers and Brisbane Airport businesses celebrated the project completion in the new Corso area.

BAC CEO and Managing Director Julieanne Alroe and BAC General Manager Commercial Businesses John Tormey joined the Assistant Minister on stage to unveil the official plaque and congratulate all involved in a successful project.

A video documenting the project was also shown on the night.

The child-friendly artwork by Cairns artist Brian Robinson is located at the new entrance of the DFO development which includes 30 new DFO stores, alfresco dining, offices and a multi-level car park.

Julieanne Alroe, BAC CEO and Managing Director, said the new artwork complements Brisbane Airport's extensive collection of public art displayed throughout the grounds and terminals which is believed to be the largest of its kind in Australia.

“Major art pieces can really transform public spaces and we’ve found that the millions of passengers and visitors travelling to and through the airport every year really appreciate and engage with the artworks on display.

“From the recently unveiled 750 metre long ‘Sensory Hug’ by the late Mrs Sally Gabori in the International Terminal Arrival’s Hall and the nine-storey kinetic façade adorning our Domestic Terminal car park, to ‘Keep the Sunshine’ by Sebastian Moody, each of these pieces shares a story about our city or state.

“It is a great honour to have Brian Robinson’s colourful creation showcasing the beauty of Queensland’s world-famous Great Barrier Reef as part of Brisbane Airport’s collection.”

Titled, ‘Woven Wonders of the Reef’ the artwork provides an interesting structure for children to interact with adding an element of surprise and delight for shoppers and visitors.

It is a perfect addition to the growing Skygate precinct with the extended Corso pedestrian area providing a relaxing environment which will soon host a further five new alfresco dining options.

Artist Brian Robinson said his creation was inspired by his childhood on Thursday Island.

“In the far north, Torres Strait Islander people weave coconut palm leaves to make shapes including the Angel fish,” Mr Robinson said.

“Woven Wonders of the Reef’ represents the many colourful schools of fish species in the waters around north Queensland.

“It offers children the experience of interacting with the Great Barrier Reef, one of the richest, most complex and diverse systems in the world, without getting their feet wet,” he said.

Brian’s work has been collected both privately and through major institutions in Australia and overseas.

Thursday 10 September 2015: Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) will deliver a new office facility at Skygate for leading construction products supplier Hanson Construction Materials Pty Ltd.

BAC’s property division BNE Property will develop the new purpose-built facility, scheduled for completion in August 2016.

BAC General Manager Commercial Businesses John Tormey said the deal is a great win for the growing Skygate precinct.

“Our office vacancy has remained the lowest in Australia at just 2.9 per cent,” Mr Tormey said, “For Skygate to attract a new commercial office tenant, particularly an international company of this magnitude, in a competitive market demonstrates its strength as an office location.”

“With a massive expansion to DFO, alfresco dining, additional office and a multi-level car park opening soon; Skygate will have even more retail and dining options to choose from,” he said.

“Together with the 24-hour Woolworths and new golf precinct, it’s an attractive place for businesses looking to centralise or expand with purpose-built premises.”
