We know a trip to LA and Disneyland has long been a bucket list item for many families. It is also great news for Queensland exporters. And importantly, it will boost the flow of American visitors to Queensland,” according to Brisbane Airport Chief Executive Officer Gert-Jan de Graaff.

“We expect 1 million passengers will travel through the International Terminal these holidays, up 46% on last year, and the United Airlines services to Los Angeles and San Francisco will be an important part of that growth. To see two Dreamliners from United Airlines on our tarmac for the first time is a magic moment.”

The new service builds on United Airlines commitment to Australia, according to Tim Wallis, Regional Manager - Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.

“At United, we’re very proud to expand our services between Brisbane and the U.S. with our first non-stop service to LA. Australians are in the top five sources for international visitors to Los Angeles just as Americans are for Queensland, and we’re happy to offer travellers, and our trade partners, even more choice.

“Our strong partnership with Virgin Australia provides excellent connectivity in this part of the world and has helped United be the clear choice for travellers between our two regions. LAX Airport has undergone significant infrastructure works in recent times, improving the transit experience considerably for travellers with U.S. or Latin American connections.”

"Brisbane Airport Corporation have been wonderful partners to work with, and we enjoy a really collaborative and engaged relationship. The inaugural United Airlines flight to San Francisco carried 15 tonnes of high-quality chilled Queensland beef bound for US dining tables. The San Francisco service has continued to carry full loads of exports including beef, lamb and seafood, generating millions of dollars of revenue for Queensland businesses and supporting local jobs.

Services will depart Los Angeles on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 9pm and arrive in Brisbane at 515am.

Flights will depart Brisbane at 1245pm on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Images now available for download.

For immediate interviews contact Brisbane Airport 24/7 Media mobile 0466 322 485

brisbane,BNE,united,connected,New flights

BNE is Queensland's primary gateway for international visitors with thousands travelling onto the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, the Whitsundays and Cairns.

Canadian citizens are high value travellers, with trip lengths longer than the average international tourist, spending on average 14 nights across 4 destinations.

“Not only will these flights deliver 60,000 tourists to Queensland each year, but they’re also crucial to boosting trade between Queensland and Canada,” according to Gert-Jan de Graaff, Chief Executive Officer of Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).

“They’ll enable Queensland farmers to export meat and fresh produce direct to Vancouver and beyond. Previously, perishable goods had to travel via Sydney which extended delivery times. The 787-9 can carry up to 11 tonnes of cargo, which Queensland exporters will be able to take advantage of.”

“The Sunshine State also relies on Canada for crucial parts to keep our economy moving. Queensland Rail’s Next Generation Rolling Stock, the Gold Coast Light Rail and many aircraft servicing the state’s regional airports rely on the fast delivery of parts from Canada.”

The airline is Canada’s flag carrier, and services more than 200 airports across six continents. It is among the world’s top 20 largest airlines, and now partners with Virgin Australia. That means Virgin Australia’s eight million Velocity Frequent Flyer members can now earn Velocity Points and Status Credits and redeem on eligible flights with Air Canada between Brisbane and Vancouver and beyond.

Air Canada General Manager Australia and New Zealand Vic Naughton says the return of non-stop Brisbane to Vancouver services also offers Queenslanders the fastest route from Brisbane to New York.

“Vancouver International Airport exclusively offers Air Canada passengers the opportunity to continue on to cities across Canada without rechecking baggage or passing through extra security checks,” says Naughton.

“Passengers continuing on to the United States also don’t need to collect and recheck bags in transit, unlike when transiting through US airports. They simply pass through YVR’s uncrowded US immigration and customs clearance facilities, then continue on to their final destination.
The three times weekly service is expected to boost American visitation to Queensland, a market that experienced 10.5 per cent growth for BNE in 2019, despite a reduction in direct seat capacity.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, BAC Chief Executive Officer, said today’s launch was another significant step in cementing Brisbane’s position as the best gateway to and from North America.

“The US visitor market is currently the fourth largest for Brisbane Airport in terms of passenger numbers, with around 185,000 US passengers travelling through the airport last year.

“Relative to the size of the market and overall demand, Queensland has been under-served from the USA, so these direct Qantas flights will go some way to addressing pent-up demand.

“More importantly, the new services will help grow the critical North American market which will have flow on benefits for every sector of our economy, from business and investment to tourism, trade and education across all of Queensland.

“This is an exceptional result for the ‘Attracting Aviation Investment Fund’ and a true reflection of what industry and government can achieve together,” he said.

“Qantas’ ongoing commitment to our city and state is clear. Qantas has been a partner of Brisbane Airport for nearly 85 years, and I look forward to furthering this long and successful partnership, including celebrate the inaugural flight between Brisbane and Chicago in a few months’ time,” Mr de Graaff added.

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones welcomed the new service, saying it would help attract more visitors from America and further boost what was already one of Queensland’s largest international tourism markets.

“Today we’re launching Qantas’ newest service, which will be a soaring success for Queensland’s tourism industry.

“This service will see a boost of 73,632 inbound seats and $67.1 million for the Queensland economy over the next three years. It also means more than 700 jobs.

“We know direct aviation access is key to growing our state’s tourism industry and that’s why we’re continuously working with our partners to explore new opportunities for Queensland,” Minister Jones said.

CEO Qantas International Mr La Spina said forward bookings on both the new Brisbane routes are performing well.

“These new services will link Australian corporate and leisure travellers with two lynchpin capitals of commerce and culture in the United States. Customers will save around four hours travel time compared to the one-stop options currently on offer.

“From a US perspective, these direct routes put some of Australia’s most popular destinations like the Whitsundays just a one-stop flight away from a foggy San Francisco morning or a windy Chicago day, and that’s great news for Queensland and Australian tourism.”

Mr La Spina added, “It’s been a difficult start to the year for Australian tourism but new routes like this help to stimulate interest and bring more visitors.

“The message we’re sending to the US is that Australia is very much open for business and it’s easier than ever to get here.”

Operated with a state-of-the-art Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner aircraft, the new flight offers 166 economy, 28 premium economy and 42 business class seats. The flights will depart Brisbane at 8.35pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and depart San Francisco at 10.15pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Airline Announcements,BNE,New flights

The new route marks AirAsia’s first time operating out of Brisbane Airport and is expected to carry up to 150,000 people between the two cities over the next year.

AirAsia X Group CEO Nadda Buranasiri said, “We are delighted to have a new home in Queensland, adding Brisbane to our Queensland ports after we commenced operating flights from the Gold Coast in 2007. This direct service between Bangkok and Brisbane strengthens our connections into Australia and adds to our extensive network of more than 140 destinations worldwide.

“Australia remains a key market for AirAsia and with new aircraft on order we can continue to review potential future expansion opportunities where we witness the right levels of demand for great value, medium to long haul air travel.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO said there is nothing more exciting for an airport than the arrival of a new airline and the launch of new services.

“Committing valuable resources to establish a new route to a new destination is a major commitment for any airline and we are very happy AirAsia has recognised the huge potential of the market between Thailand and Brisbane and is backing that potential,” he said.

“Today’s launch is the start of a very exciting and successful partnership with AirAsia and we have no doubt these direct flights, combined with AirAsia’s renowned low fares and quality product and services, will be extremely popular with travellers in both directions.”

Minister for Tourism Industry Development Kate Jones said the new service would inject up to

$156 million into the Queensland economy over the next three years.

“This is a great day for Queensland as we welcome yet another new inbound service to the State,” Ms Jones said.

“Asia is a key market for Queensland’s tourism industry and this new service will bring more than 235,000 inbound seats to Brisbane over the next three years, providing a $156 million boost to the state’s economy and supporting 660 jobs.

“The Queensland Government supports new services through the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund because we know providing travellers with direct access to the state is key to growing our tourism industry.

“Not only are we supporting a direct flight for visitors from Thailand, but this service provides an opportunity for visitors from destinations across Asia.”

The Lord Mayor of Brisbane Adrian Schrinner said the new AirAsia direct service from Bangkok to Brisbane marked another phase in Brisbane’s tourism evolution.

“The new AirAsia direct service will help us continue to grow visitor numbers from Asia, supporting our small businesses and jobs across our accommodation, hospitality, retail and service sectors,” he said.

“The latest International Visitor Survey revealed the number of Asian visitors to Brisbane has reached record levels, climbing 5.5 per cent to 605,000 over the year to March.

“With more to see and do in Brisbane than ever before, Asian visitors are increasingly attracted by our lifestyle offerings through growth in new hotels, entertainment precincts, restaurants and venues.”

Direct fares from Brisbane to Bangkok start at just AUD$199.

The airline has also revealed plans to launch three-times weekly flights between BNE and San Francisco, also set to launch by the end of April 2020.

This will be the first time these two cities have had non-stop services from Queensland with Qantas scheduling its state-of-the-art Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner aircraft on each route.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, BAC CEO, said the new routes offered untapped potential for growth in tourism, trade, investment, education and business sectors that would ripple throughout the city and the entire state of Queensland.

“Brisbane Airport is excited to be partnering with Qantas and key Government stakeholders to bring these new direct links to Chicago and San Francisco to fruition.“Relative to the size of the market and overall demand, Queensland has been under-served from the USA, and these new services will go some way to addressing pent up demand.

“Direct flights into Chicago, the heart of mid-west USA, and San Francisco the cultural, commercial, and financial centre of Northern California, are a game changer for Brisbane and Queensland, positioning Brisbane as the best gateway to and from North America.

“These network connections will strengthen ties, investment and education opportunities with US companies and universities in areas such as digital technology, life sciences, biotechnology and renewables.

“With North American being Queensland’s fifth-largest two-way goods trade partner, valued at $8.7 billion in 2018, additional direct services will support increased trade opportunities.

“The flights will also bring hundreds of thousands of visitors directly into our city and state each year. Visitors who will travel throughout our state from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, to the Outback, the Whitsundays, and to the Tropical North.

“For Queenslanders, direct flights into more parts of North America are a more convenient way to travel, saving time by avoiding multiple connections and providing greater choice of entry points into the USA.

“The opportunity for international visitors to use Brisbane as their connection point cannot be over-stated. These new and unique services from Chicago will elevate Brisbane, and broader Queensland, as a key stopover destination for travellers from the US east coast and other connecting markets through American Airlines,” Mr de Graaff said.

The new Chicago and San Francisco flights will boost capacity between Queensland and the USA to more than 641,000 two-way seats each year, including flights to Los Angeles and Honolulu and services offered by other carriers.

“Qantas’ ongoing commitment to our city and state is clear. Qantas has been a partner of Brisbane Airport for nearly 85 years, connecting Queensland to the world, establishing Australia’s only heavy aircraft maintenance hub onsite, and locating four of its Dreamliner fleet at BNE. I commend the Qantas team for their continued commitment to Brisbane and Queensland and look forward to continuing this legacy,” Mr de Graaff added.

Brisbane Airport,New flights,BNE,Qantas,International Terminal

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi was the first VIP passenger welcomed at Brisbane Airport (BNE) following the evening arrival of the inaugural Samoa Airways flight from Apia yesterday.

Heralding the commencement of scheduled services between Brisbane and Samoa, the direct Boeing 737-800 services, which will operate twice weekly during November-January and weekly from February to March, will further strengthen the lasting and cooperative relationship that currently exists between Australia and Samoa, adding 14,000 seats into the market each year.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) Chief Executive Officer, said BAC was committed to working with Samoa Airways to ensure the success of the service, explore market demand and provide more choice for travellers.

“Brisbane has the largest population of Samoan born people in Queensland, so these new flights help maintain strong cultural familial ties, providing choice and convenience, while saving time and money as travellers are no longer forced to travel via another port.

“Samoa is truly the heart of Polynesia and a place Australian’s want to visit to experience the breath-taking natural beauty, authentic culture and the warm and renowned Samoan hospitality.

“These new direct flights however will deliver so much more to both Queensland and Samoa, boosting business, education, health care and trade opportunities.

“We warmly welcome Samoa Airways to the Brisbane Airport family and look forward to working with them to make the route a success,” Mr de Graaff said.

The A380 service will arrive in Brisbane at 6:25am and depart 9:00pm daily from 2 September 2018.

Showing confidence in the Brisbane and Queensland market, Emirates has also significantly improved its schedule for its other two daily services which are both operated by a Boeing 777-300ER.

From 28 October 2018, Emirates daily direct service from Dubai to Brisbane will depart Dubai at 2:30am, arriving in Brisbane at 10:45pm. The revised daily Singapore stop-over service will depart Singapore at 10:10am and will arrive into Brisbane at 7:40pm.

The updates to the Brisbane services will offer passengers seamless one-stop connections from numerous European markets to Brisbane, reducing two to three hours off the journey time and making for a more attractive arrival time into Brisbane.

The retiming of these services will not only benefit Brisbane passengers, but also provide improved timings for residents of Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane Airport’s broader catchment.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, BAC Chief Executive Officer, said, “Emirates has been a long term partner of Brisbane Airport, providing essential connections between Queensland, the Middle East and Europe.

“Of all of Brisbane Airport’s foreign airline partners Emirates carried the most number of passengers to/from Brisbane in FY18, proving its popularity among global travellers.

“Since the introduction of the third daily service last December, and with the reinstatement of the A380, Emirates’ seat capacity between Dubai and Brisbane has grown by over 40 per cent,” Mr de Graaff said.

Emirates is the only airline in Queensland to operate the iconic A380 aircraft. The A380 offers 489 seats in a three-class cabin configuration with 14 private suites in First Class, 76 flat-bed seats in Business Class and 399 spacious seats in Economy.

Airline Announcements,International Terminal,New flights

The four times weekly flights, arriving and departing Brisbane on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, is expected to further boost Chinese visitation to Queensland, a market that experienced 9 per cent growth for BNE in FY17.

The service has been acquired for Brisbane as a result of the Queensland State Government ‘Connecting with Asia’ Fund, supported by consortium representatives from Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC), Brisbane Marketing, Gold Coast Tourism, Tourism Events Queensland, Tourism Whitsundays and Tourism Australia, among others.

Julieanne Alroe, BAC CEO and Managing Director, said today’s launch was another significant step for the city and state in positioning Brisbane as a major Asia Pacific centre.

“The Chinese visitor market is currently the second largest for Brisbane Airport, with around 350,000 Chinese passengers travelling through the airport last financial year.

“These direct Air China flights will help grow this important market which will have flow on benefits for every sector of our economy, from business and investment to tourism, trade and education.

“As a major gateway to Australia we know that many international passengers arriving at Brisbane Airport also travel on to other Queensland regions by road or via our extensive flight network spanning 52 domestic destinations across Australia.

“This is an exceptional result for the ‘Connecting with Asia’ Consortium all of whom are working tirelessly in this space to attract new airlines such as Air China to our city and secure additional direct services or capacity on existing routes.

“Quite simply, these new services would not have been secured without the financial support provided by the State Government and matching funds from industry partners.

“I congratulate Air China on this auspicious day and look forward to building a long and successful partnership with the Air China team,” Ms Alroe said.

Mr Rui Jei, General Manager of Air China in Australia, said, “This is an exciting era for Air China and Queensland, Brisbane City and Brisbane Airport.

“The four time direct weekly service to Beijing will offer Queensland travellers more connections from Air China’s strong extensive network in China and internationally to Europe, North America and major cities in Asia.

“The new direct service conveniently allows Northern Chinese visitors to the warm sunshine Queensland to enjoy its beaches and the beautiful tropical scenery.

“As our saying to our passengers, ‘Your World, Our flight’,” Mr Rui said.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk welcomed the new service, saying it would help attract more visitors from China and further boost what was already the city’s largest international tourism market.

“In addition to attracting more visitors to our New World City, the new Air China flights will increase trade and investment opportunities and entice more international students to study in Brisbane, helping us grow our economy and create more jobs,” Cr Quirk said.

“The inaugural flight also arrives just a few months before we host 1,000 key airline, airport and tourism delegates at Routes Asia 2018, the leading aviation route development forum for Asia that will help us tap into more tourism and aviation opportunities for Brisbane.”

Air China, Brisbane Airport’s 32nd airline partner, is the national carrier of The People’s Republic of China and the home airline of China’s mega-hub, Beijing Capital Airport.

Air China is one of the few airlines to operate to all six inhabited continents. Via Beijing, Brisbane travellers will be able to travel on Air China to 18 points in Europe, nine points in North America, and almost anywhere in China and Asia on their comprehensive network.

Operated with an Airbus A330-200 aircraft, the new flight offers 207 economy and 30 business class seats. The flights will arrive from Beijing at 3.10pm and depart Brisbane at 7.30pm.

International Terminal,Airline Announcements,New flights,Events,AirChina

Julieanne Alroe, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director, welcomed the announcement saying the new services would not have been secured without the financial support provided by the State Government and matching funds from industry partners.

“These new daily flights are the first successful acquisition for Brisbane under the ‘The Connecting with Asia’ Fund whereby a core consortium of industry partners - including Brisbane Airport Corporation, Tourism Events Queensland, Brisbane Marketing, Gold Coast Tourism, Tourism Whitsundays and Tourism Australia, among others - provide matching funds to the state government contribution to attract new airlines,” Ms Alroe said.

“It is gratifying to see this hard work and collaborative effort to attract new airline services come to fruition.

“Teamwork and pooling resources is the key to ongoing success in promoting our city and state and securing new direct routes between Queensland and China.

“I would like to thank the State Government and our consortium partners for their support and we look forward to further success in building international connections through this innovative approach.”

China is currently the second largest international visitor market for Brisbane Airport, averaging 14 per cent growth per year in the last five years, equating to 310,000+ inbound passengers from China each year.

Ms Alroe added, “I extend my congratulations to the China Eastern team for its commitment to Queensland.

“New daily flights will help grow this important market, providing benefits for every sector of our economy, from business and investment to tourism, trade and education.

“Daily flights allow the flexibility that business travellers and holiday makers need when planning their travel, including better timings for various connections across China and the world.

“As a major gateway to Australia we also know that many inbound international passengers arriving at Brisbane Airport also travel on to other Queensland regions by road or via our extensive flight network spanning 50 domestic destinations across Australia,” she said.

China Eastern Airlines is China’s second largest airline, Shanghai’s home carrier and one of the ‘Big 3’ national airlines of China with a fleet of more than 440 aircraft. It offers a premium full service product trusted by high yielding Chinese business and leisure travellers who now spend $1.2 trillion globally on tourism.

China Eastern will operate one of its new modern Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route with the new services leaving Brisbane at lunch time and arriving into Shanghai during the early evening, with return flights operating overnight to arrive back in Brisbane in the morning.

From its base at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport, China Eastern’s network connects travellers to every corner of China, with services to 217 destinations around the globe including Europe, North America and throughout Asia, with flights operated in codeshare with Qantas, so passengers can earn Frequent Flyer Points on the service.

Brisbane Airport,Airline Announcements,New flights,China Eastern

<pp:caseid>221641</pp:caseid>

Days ahead of Singapore Airlines increasing services from 24 to 28 flights per week (four times daily) between Singapore and Brisbane Airport, the airline has announced it will operate the brand new A350-900 aircraft for three of its four daily flights.

The introduction of the three new aircraft will occur over a four month period starting from Monday 16 October 2017, when SQ235/256 will change from an A330-300 to the new A350-900.

The A350 will bring to Brisbane Singapore’s new Premium Economy cabin (24 seats per flight; 52,416 seats per year), and a 42 per cent increase in Business Class capacity to nearly 100,000 weekly seats per annum.

Compared to current operating capacity, by January 2018 Singapore Airlines’ overall Singapore-Brisbane capacity will increase by 53,040 seats per annum (two way).

Julieanne Alroe, BAC CEO and Managing Director, welcomed the announcement saying the increase in Premium Economy and Business Class capacity demonstrates Singapore Airlines’ confidence in Brisbane, and the economic outlook moving forward.

“The passenger mix is changing and it’s evident more travellers are wanting a premium experience so it makes sense for Singapore Airlines to bring the state-of-the-art A350 into the Brisbane market.

“Combined with Singapore Airlines’ brand new airport lounge at the International Terminal and our award winning customer service, Brisbane Airport is increasingly becoming the gateway of choice for discerning business and leisure travellers,” Ms Alroe said.

Additionally, premium flight options attract premium visitors seeking high-end experiences which significantly contribute to a vibrant growth in tourism, with the benefits rippling through the entire state.

“Any extra or upgraded service to Brisbane Airport helps boost the economy and will benefit all of Queensland as visitors connect onto other popular intrastate destinations, as well as visiting local hot spots like the Gold and Sunshine Coasts,” Ms Alroe said.

Singapore Airlines is the only international carrier to offer four daily return frequencies on a single route from Brisbane.

Last financial year it carried more than 690,000 passengers to/from Brisbane and, from January 2018, will be offering 750,000 seats over 2,900 annual aircraft arrivals/departures, reinforcing Singapore Airline’s major presence in Brisbane.

Singapore Airlines is also an important contributor to Queensland tourism, drawing in visitors from a variety of countries including Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the UK, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Scandinavia.

International Terminal,Airline Announcements,New flights,Singapore Airlines

Julieanne Alroe Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director warmly welcomed the announcement saying the additional services would meet growing demand on the route.

“The Taiwanese visitor market to Brisbane has grown consistently in the last few years with passenger numbers jumping by more than 10,000 new traveller every year since 2013 to just under 100,000 (inbound and outbound) in 2016.

“China Air’s new seven days a week schedule with an evening departure from Taipei is also attractive to Australian business travellers looking for options to conduct their work in Asia and return home on a convenient overnight flight.

<pp:caseid>188478</pp:caseid>

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has welcomed the announcement by Emirates that it will add a third daily return flight between Dubai and Brisbane from 1 December 2017.

The direct service, to be operated on a B777-200LR aircraft with eight seats in First Class, 42 in Business Class and 216 in Economy Class, will increase capacity on the route by 3,724 seats a week, inbound and outbound between Brisbane and Emirates’ hub Dubai.

This will provide Australian passengers a seamless connection to Emirates’ global route network including destinations in Croatia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

For inbound passengers, Emirates’ partnership with Qantas gives travellers the option of connecting to all regional and major cities in Australia, including the popular Queensland regions of Tropical North Queensland, the Whitsundays and the iconic Great Barrier Reef, further underpinning Brisbane as the most connected airport in Australia.

Julieanne Alroe Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director welcomed Emirates’ decision to increase flights into Brisbane, applauding the airline for its ongoing commitment to the people of Queensland.

“More and more international travellers are choosing Brisbane as their main port of entry into Australia and Emirates’ third daily flight will certainly help meet the increased demand created by this influx.

“Importantly, three times daily direct flights will help further stimulate international travel between Queensland and Dubai Airport, a global hub which holds the title of being the busiest airport in the world, welcoming more than 83 million passengers last year.

“As a premium carrier, Emirates also brings into Queensland international visitors seeking unique and high-end experiences and products, allowing tourism, business and service providers to tap into an affluent visitor market.

“Indeed every new international flight into Brisbane injects millions of dollars into our economy and it’s not just South East Queensland that benefits as visitors often connect onto other popular intra and interstate destinations, as well as visiting local hot spots like the Gold and Sunshine Coasts,” Ms Alroe said.

“I’d like to congratulate and thank the Emirates team for its ongoing and significant commitment to Brisbane and Queensland,” Ms Alroe added.

The third daily Emirates’ service between Brisbane and Dubai will depart BNE at 10.25pm each day, arriving in Dubai at 7.00am the following morning. The inbound flight will depart Dubai at 10pm, arriving in Brisbane at 6.15pm.

Airline Announcements,New flights
