Surfing suits hang ten for flying Docs
Business suits will be swapped for ‘boardies’ at Brisbane Airport’s annual Corporate Surf Challenge on Friday 7 October 2011 when world surfing champion, Mark Occhilupo, will join members of the business fraternity to carve up the waves for charity.
Hosted in partnership with The Cribb Island Board Riders Club, the inaugural Corporate Surf Challenge in 2010 attracted teams from the country’s leading corporations.
$25,000 was raised for the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service of Queensland (RFDS) last year, which will again be the beneficiary for this year’s event.
Fresh from his win at the recent Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy, surfing legend and 1999 ASP World Champion, Mark “Occy” Occhilupo, will be auctioned off as a member of one lucky team prior to the day.
Rachel Crowley, Head of Corporate Relations, Brisbane Airport Corporation, said the Corporate Surf Challenge was a fun alternative to the usual charity golf day.
“Whacking a golf ball around has been a staple corporate activity for years so, given we’re surrounded by some of the most stunning beaches in the world, we thought we’d up the ante and take the battle to the beach.
“It can get fairly competitive on the waves, but there’s always lots of laughs back on the beach and it’s a great way to raise funds for charity,” Ms Crowley said.
Held at Duranbah Beach on the Gold Coast from 7am – 5pm, participants and sponsors will enjoy the ultimate surfing experience as well as a buffet breakfast and lunch with beer, wine and soft drink, private marquees and special welcome gifts.
