Singapore Airlines Celebrates 30 Years of Service to BNE
In 1984, the same year the first Apple Macintosh went on sale, Ghost Busters was playing at the cinemas and Prince Harry was born, Singapore Airlines commenced operations to Brisbane in its, then, state-of-the-art Boeing 747-300 named “Big Top”.
While a lot has changed in the world over the last 30 years, Singapore Airlines has maintained a continuous and sustained commitment to Queensland, a milestone which was celebrated today by Singapore Airlines staff and passengers and Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) at Brisbane Airport.
BAC CEO and Managing Director Julieanne Alroe congratulated Singapore Airlines on reaching its Pearl anniversary.
“In celebrating this 30 year anniversary at BNE, Singapore Airlines joins an exclusive club: only seven other carriers have reached or exceeded the same milestone.
“This is a remarkable achievement and I congratulate the team at Singapore Airlines and thank them for being a great partner to BAC over the years.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership well into the future,” Ms Alroe said.
Singapore Airlines Queensland Manager Greg McJarrow said, "We are pleased to achieve this special milestone. It is humbling to look back on the contribution so far made, particularly for our loyal customers and staff. Singapore Airlines is the only international carrier to offer triple daily frequencies on a single route from Brisbane.
It carries more than half a million passengers each year with over 2,100 annual aircraft arrivals and departures, reinforcing Singapore Airline’s major presence in Brisbane.
Singapore Airlines is also an important contributor to Queensland tourism, drawing in visitors from a variety of countries including Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the UK, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Scandinavia.
