Cathay Pacific Celebrates 30 Years of Service to Brisbane

Today Cathay Pacific Airways’ new General Manager South West Pacific Dominic Perret arrived in Brisbane to help celebrate the airline’s 30th anniversary of flights into the city along with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director Julieanne Alroe and her team.

It was August 4, 1982 that the first Cathay Pacific flight touched down at Brisbane Airport.

It was the latest Boeing 747-200 aircraft fitted with 35 First Class, 36 Business Class and 337 Economy Class seats.

Since that time, Cathay Pacific has increased its flights from one to 11 per week and last year alone brought over 100,000 passengers into Brisbane.

“Australia has long been an important market for Cathay Pacific.

Over the past 30 years we have had a continuous and sustained commitment to Queensland – both Brisbane and Cairns - proof that we are truly here for the long haul,” said Dominic.

“I would particularly like to thank Brisbane Airport for being a great partner to Cathay Pacific over the years, and more importantly the people of Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coasts and surrounding areas for choosing to fly with us.

“I am also delighted that from 3 October this year, Brisbane passengers will be able to enjoy our acclaimed new Economy Class and Premium Economy cabins as well as the world’s best Business Class according to Skytrax 2012 awards.

Cairns passengers will see the service from 28 October,” he said.

“Excitingly, our flights have also been re-timed to enable even better onward connections to key destinations in mainland China and the Indian subcontinent.”
