Brisbane Airport wins two national awards

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has been recognised at the AIPM Awards and the AAA Awards, winning the AIPM Defence/Aerospace Project Management Category for its facilitation of world leaders through Brisbane Airport during the G20 Summit, while being named ‘Capital City Airport of the Year’ for the second consecutive year at the AAA Awards overnight.

Stephen Goodwin, BAC General Manager Operations, also was also recognised by the AAA with a special Distinguished Service Award for his significant contribution to the Association and wider airport community during his tenure as AAA National Chairman from 2011-2015.

The awards were presented at Gala Dinners hosted by the AIPM and AAA in Hobart this week.

The 2015 AIPM Achievement Awards recognise and honour outstanding achievements or excellence in project and project management, attracting hundreds of entries across all sectors each year.

The projects considered in BAC’s nomination for the AAA’s Capital City Airport of the Year Award included BAC’s innovative Digital Departure Card, the International Terminal redevelopment project and operational management of the G20 at the airport.

Julieanne Alroe, BAC CEO and Managing Director, said, “These national awards are an enormous and well deserved honour for each and every BAC team member whose hard work, attention to detail and expertise contributed to our success in these highly sought-after awards.

“To be named Capital City Airport of Year for the second consecutive year among peer airports delivering equally impressive projects was also unexpected and humbling.

“It’s a very exciting period of growth and change in Australia and travellers are fortunate to have an airport and aviation industry working hard to provide the best services and infrastructure available,” Ms Alroe said.

Commenting on the AIPM Award Ms Alroe said, “Facilitating the arrival and departure of 26 world leaders for G20 was the most important logistical event of Brisbane Airport’s (BNE) history made even more notable because, unlike previous G20 host airports which cease normal operations during G20, BNE maintained business as usual throughout.

“Everyone involved with the G20 event at Brisbane Airport, including agencies and organisations external to BAC, deservedly share the accolades of this award with us,” Ms Alroe said.
