Brisbane Airport welcomes Philippine Airlines inaugural service

Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Limited (BAC) has welcomed Philippine Airlines to Brisbane, with new services starting today.

Philippine Airlines, now Brisbane’s 31st airline, will fly twice weekly through Brisbane, departing every Thursday and Saturday on the Manila-Melbourne-Brisbane route.The new direct service will make it easier for Queenslanders to travel overseas, and encourage international visitors to visit the sunshine state.

There is also the option for passengers to travel beyond Manila to other destinations served by Philippine Airlines, such as Macau, Japan, China and Guam.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director Julieanne Alroe congratulated Philippine Airlines on its announcement, saying a new airline brings greater options for passengers with new destinations.

“Philippine Airlines coming to Brisbane indicates the growing popularity of the Asia Pacific region within the Brisbane market, which is why we are pleased to be able to provide maximum options in services and destinations for our passengers,” Ms Alroe said.

“The Philippines is the 16th most popular outbound destination for Brisbane passengers and we expect the ranking to improve, with the new service expected to be popular with business travellers and the growing Brisbane Filipino community, in addition to vacationers.”

Currently, there are over 61,000 round trips per annum between the Philippines and Brisbane, and the new twice-weekly services will greatly stimulate this market.

The new flights, served with an A330 aircraft boasting 42 business class seats have the potential to provide up to 1,200 additional passengers per week.

“This new service to Brisbane will ensure we can accommodate the substantial increase in demand, while locking in Brisbane Airport’s role as the gateway for travel through Queensland and a hub for the Asia Pacific region,” she said.

Philippine Airlines has been operating to Australia for the last 9 years and Brisbane Airport will be their 25th international destination.
