Brisbane Airport welcomes opening of AirportLinkM7

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) welcomes the newly opened Airportlink, a 6.7km road and tunnel connecting the airport to the Inner City Bypass, Clem 7, northern arterials and local road network at Bowen Hills.

"AirportLink will provide a convenient alternative for the millions of people who travel to and from Brisbane Airport each year, as well as the 20,000 who work at the airport each day," BAC CEO Julieanne Alroe said.

"AirportLink also helps in the positioning of Brisbane in the global business events market as a competitive major city with ease of access between the airport and the central business district. Brisbane is fortunate to boast an airport so close to the city and this new road infrastructure only adds to that convenience for all."

Ms Alroe congratulated all involved in the construction and delivery of the project and echoed the Deputy Premier's words of praise for the forbearance of local residents during construction.

"Major projects like this invariably ask a great deal of patience from neighbours so all Brisbane residents who will benefit from this road should be grateful for the cooperation of the locals. I have no doubt their patience will be well rewarded by the positive impact this road will have on their neighbourhoods,” Ms Alroe said.

AirportLink is expected to take up to twenty minutes off a journey from the city to the airport in peak periods.

The AirportLink road and tunnel opening provides further traffic relief for motorists following the opening of Moreton Drive in 2009 and the completion of the Gateway Upgrade Project in 2011.

The new road opening supports BAC’s recently released Property Master Plan which sets out a vision for Brisbane Airport as a highly connected, 24 hour aviation trade and commerce hub.
