Brisbane Airport to create a new plan for Property
Brisbane Airport will today host its first Airport Atelier, a design charette intended to generate ideas and concepts for a new Property Master Plan to be developed by December this year.
Airport Atelier will involve up to 80 people across five multi-disciplinary teams, including participants from Brisbane’s planning and design sector and representatives from local and state government to, explore a series of urban development ideas over two days, building on the existing Brisbane Airport Master Plan, 2009.
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director Julieanne Alroe, said.
Airport Atelier was an ideal way to include stakeholders across Brisbane in the planning in the next phase of the Airport’s property development.
“Brisbane Airport is not an island. It is a major part of the city of Brisbane, and as the Gateway to Queensland for our international and domestic visitors, it is also the welcoming statement for our State,” Ms Alroe said.
“For this reason it is essential we work with our partners in local, state and federal government, along with the best Brisbane planning and design minds and local community, to ensure Brisbane Airport is the impressive calling card our region deserves.”
Airport Atelier will complete an ambitious program with key areas being explored including: the ‘front door’ entrance statement, public and active transport, legibility and connectivity, and place making to ensure future property development is successful, vibrant and prosperous whilst promoting Brisbane’s subtropical lifestyle.
The design charette follows the successful development of the Brisbane Airport Area Round Table (BAART); a planning group comprising planning representatives from all levels of government who meet quarterly to collaborate on planning and development issues for the airport region.
“Through the BAART we have already seen how our developments and plans are more effective when they are completed in a way that compliments the planning of our surrounding region which is designed by BCC and the State Government.
I hope Airport Atelier will now bring similar positive partnership outcomes to our plans for property development in the future,” Ms Alroe said.
