Art with Altitude set to soar again in 2013 at Skygate

Brisbane Airport Corporation’s (BAC) Art with Altitude festival at Skygate is set to reach new heights this October with larger-than-life interactive artworks, Queensland Theatre Company children’s theatre performances, and children’s art workshops presented by QAGOMA.

This year’s free contemporary art festival will be held over four days from 24 to 27 October on the greens at Skygate, a vibrant retail and lifestyle precinct at the entrance to Brisbane Airport.

General Manager of BAC’s property division BNE Property, Ms Renaye Peters, welcomes the return of the award-winning Art with Altitude to Skygate this October following the success of the inaugural festival last year, which won the hearts and imaginations of thousands of Brisbane families.

“This year we are taking Art with Altitude to another level, inviting people of all ages to discover and connect with unique contemporary installations, see live art in progress and perhaps even become an artist in the making,” Ms Peters said.

“We are very pleased to announce that Natasha Edwards, the Founding Director of the highly successful Swell Sculpture Festival on the Gold Coast, has joined Art with Altitude as curator to bring these elements to life through her selection of sculptures from leading Australian artists.

“Art with Altitude is not your traditional art festival. It celebrates our airport setting with themes of connections, voyages and crossing borders while at the same time, its large-scale interactive artworks immersed within Skygate’s open green spaces and retail environment challenges how and where art should be enjoyed,” she said.

The festival’s free, family-friendly, four-day program will also see the return of Queensland Theatre Company presenting its I children’s theatre by Matthew Ryan and QAGOMA presenting Make A Roo children’s art workshops from the ‘Kangaroo Crew’ exhibition by Indigenous Australian artist Gordon Hookey currently on display at the Children's Art Centre, Gallery of Modern Art.

While the full program will be released in the coming months, Brisbane residents can be sure that there will be no event like it on our city’s calendar.
