4pm Wednesday - Brisbane Airport open despite high tide

Brisbane Airport has survived the 2.30pm high tide and Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is now certain it will continue to stay open throughout the night.

Despite rising water levels with the high tide, the drainage system has held, keeping the airport precinct dry, ensuring Brisbane Airport is able to continue operating normally.

Both Domestic and International Terminals are operating with flights expected to be landing and departing on schedule throughout the day.

BAC will continue to monitor water levels on the hour every hour, and water pumps have been deployed across the airfield to be used if necessary.

Although aircraft are still able to fly in and out of Brisbane Airport, passengers should contact their airlines direct for further information on changes to flight schedules.

Public transport to and from Brisbane Airport is available but limited. Airtrain is running services every half hour to the city for passengers, and once every hour to the Gold Coast. CoachTrans bus service to the CBD is operating on demand for today, however the services to the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast are operating as normal. Coachtrans night time services for Wednesday are cancelled. For further information on public transport options, visit www.translink.com.au.

Roads on the Brisbane Airport precinct are currently open and are expected to remain open throughout the night. For roads surrounding the airport precinct which may be impacted by floods, please visit www.131940.qld.gov.au.

BAC would like to notify Brisbane residents that the airport is not a designated evacuation centre. Last night 150 people arrived at the International Terminal after being incorrectly informed it was an evacuation centre. BAC took the people in and sheltered them, however, the terminals are not equipped with the bedding, food or water supplies, needed to be an evacuation centre.

Brisbane Airport will continue to update its operations on the website www.bne.com.au as the week progresses.
